Green Tea Is Better Than Red Wine?

Have you ever wondered why French people can smoke a lot and eat a lot of fatty foods but have a considerably lower rate of heart and lung problems than many other cultures? You are not alone, many others have the same question. The answer was found to be the polyphenol known as resveratrol. Resveratrol is found in high quantities in red wine. Red wine is drank a lot by French people and so they can get away with smoking and eating greasy foods with significantly less consequences. Resveratrol is an anti oxidant that slows down the breakdown of the body.

What has this got to do with green tea I hear you ask? This is after all a green tea related website. The thing about resveratrol and EGCG, the reason why green tea so good for you is that they are the same thing. Polyphenols. The only difference is that the polyphenol in green tea is significantly stronger than the polyphenol in red wine. What is the conclusion? Drink lots of green tea and you’ll be able to drink and smoke like a French man but have to suffer less of the hangovers. Unless of course you like vodka with your green tea.

But I don’t believe you! Green tea is just a drink. Can you prove that green tea can stop me getting lung cancer and heart disease (by the way, these are two of the biggest killers in the USA today)? Absolutely I can prove the health benefits of green tea. All you need to do is look at the youth population of Japan where green tea consumption and smoking are both very high. The smoking population accounts for around 75% of the total population but they have a significantly lower than expected rate of heart disease.

Maybe it’s not the green tea that’s causing this reduced number of people with heart problems but I believe that given the science the link between green tea and heart disease is one that should not be ignored.

Taking green tea tablets regularly would appear a cost effective way to reduce your chances of heart disease.
